Dodgers in May
ml.b.com/standings

May has been an exceptional month for the Dodgers. They finish the month hitting hitting .248/ .341/ .437/ .778. Pitching finishes the month with a 3.86 ERA in 212 IP with 7 saves, 9.81 SO/W, and 8.7 SO/9. The team finishes the month 18-7 and in first place by 8.5 games.

This month has shown remarkable clutch pitching and hitting on a consistent basis where the team is using walks to leverage situations. That is, among all things, hitters are walking more and pitchers are avoiding walks to the tune of an increased win percentage- 62.5%.

The one lowlight continues to be the bullpen. Through 61.2 IP, the bullpen has an era of 5.11, 1.378 WHIP, 2.67 SO/W, and 8.2 SO/9. The bullpen has given up 21 walks, which is the same amount of  walks in 90 fewer innings than the starters.

The Dodgers that led the team in May:

Hyun Jun Ryu

5 games started; 4-0, 0.71 ERA

38 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 0.684 WHIP, 14.5 SO/ W, 6.9 SO/9.

Cody Bellinger

.310/ .406/ .598/ 1.004

101 PAs; 18 R, 27 H, 7 2B, 6 HR, 15 RBI, 2 SB, 14 BB, 16 SO

BAbip = .323; tOPS = 66

And his numbers took a big dip from March and April!

Alex Verdugo

.297/ .3711/ .419/ .790

89 PAs; 9 R, 22 H, 9 2B, 0 HR, 11 RBI, 2 SB, 10 BB, 8 SO

BAbip = .314; tOPS = 82

His usage improved 30% from April….pretty good for a rookie.
